What Brett Favre and I Have in Common

FavreBrett Favre is amazing.  Taylor and I watched him defeat his former team – the Green Bay Packers – tonight, and we were both amazed.  At 39 years old, the man has still got some serious game!  As I was watching, it dawned on me, Brett and I have something in common: we’re both the same age (which made me marvel even more).  This, however, is where the similarities end for us. Take a look at what I mean…

For the last 18 years, he’s taken vicious hit after vicious hit, and he’s still going strong.  For the last 18 years, I’ve been raising kids (taking my share of vicious hits), and I can barely get up in the mornings.

Brett has thrown thousands upon thousands of passes over the years, and his arm is still as strong as it was when he was young.  I played one rough game of pool basketball this past summer, and I still can’t move my right elbow without sharp pain shooting through my arm.

Brett still wears the same size Levi’s he did when he was 20.  If I tried to put on the jeans I wore when I was 20, they wouldn’t get past my knees before ripping in two.

Brett has been featured on the cover of numerous magazines over the years.  The closest I’ve ever come to being on a “magazine” cover is having my picture on page 2 of my church’s directory.

Brett has won countless awards for his play on the field.  I barely lettered in high school, obtaining my varsity letter my senior year…for being the school mascot.

Last week, Brett sprinted 50 yards after completing a pass so that he could block for the receiver he passed the ball to.  Last week, I didn’t sprint at all, nor did I even think about doing so.

Brett watches hours of film each week before taking the field.  I watch a two-hour film every once-in-a-while and can hardly drag myself to bed when it’s over.

Brett is set to make 13 million dollars this year in salary alone.  If I can finish the year with 13 dollars in my savings account, I’ll consider it a good year.

39 years.  It’s the only thing Brett Favre and I have in common.  I’d write more, but after watching him play tonight, I’m exhausted.  Good night.

  • Chris Luce says:

FYI 49ers are more powerful than the Vikings if you saw the game between them It was close but our defense is nasty Mike Singletary look up this guy more impressive 7 kids a die hard Christian good friends with Leslie Frazier Vikings offensive Coordinator they are Christian buddies and knew each other and played together with 85′ Bears go 49ers we will beat the Falcons next week

  • Chris Luce says:

Take it from me Favre is a cry baby look at his statistics my buddy Nate die hard Packers fan hates him his mom a Vikings fan hates him very few are happy about him because he can’t make a decision Favre is a liar as well because he claims the Packers didn’t want him back he should quit complaining about a long time ago on ESPN last night he kept going on about how he wants to win for the right reasons and not revenge here’s the deal he retired from the Packers they didn’t release him he Favre makes it seem like they didn’t want him they wanted him back if I am correct but he took such a long time and cried to press that he was retiring then so much that I think he is a wimp he can’t make man decisions and he is another wimp because he can’t back off ever from this he is out of gas its only a matter of time before he gets hurt my advice to Favre don’t get injured and he needs a box of tissues from this youtube video
he needs to face it he won’t win another Super Bowl

In Fact the Steelers Whole Offensive line was on the Show with DX Triple H and Shawn Michaels and defeated the Big Show and Jericho It was cool man I would not want to fight the offensive line of the Steelers

  • Darcy says:

OK…I’m only gonna post once. ;) That said…I’m really disappointed in Favre. And as crazy as this sounds, I’m so glad my Grandma Marie who was born & raised in WI, is no longer alive to see what Favre is up to. It would break her heart to know he went to the Vikings – not to mention all his shenanigan’s the last couple of years (“I’m retired!” “No, I’m not retired” “Take me back Green Bay”)
Sheesh. This guy needs some counseling on what retirement means & feeding into that big ego.
I don’t deny that he looks great this season – he does. But, he’s just one sack away from another concussion or a serious hand injury.

  • Chris Luce says:

I agree with Darcy he can’t decide on anything except he lives in the past not the present he thinks he can win another Super Bowl not going to happen he probably will get hurt

  • Evonne says:

There are more battles to be won in life besides on the controlled field of a football game. Kudos to the longevity of the disciplined Favre. Hopefully he is a man who has developed more than just his biceps. I don’t know anything about him other than what has been posted here. I admire those who fulfill their athletic gifts and I am hoping his on again off again participation is principled rather than rooted in an identity crisis because he has failed to engage in more than one area of his giftedness in life. There is great joy in watching a gifted athlete and greater joy still when his gifts and efforts reach beyond his personal identity and glory.

  • Chris says:

    Ho hum.

  • Darcy says:

Pastor Mike – if you haven’t seen it yet already – try to find on You Tube the Brett Favre Sears commercial. It’s really funny & he is slyly poking fun at himself.
