oh oh oh!!! I was going to blog on this very same exact sign!! It’s really close to our house. And the funny thing is (not in a funny ha ha, but funny like that is pathetic) that they never started putting up these antagonistic messages until this New Agey spirituality center moved in directly across the street. Then suddenly it was like they had to be practically hostile with their sign, in putting up messages like these.
If I were a non-believer, I would be really turned off by this. Why on earth would I want to visit their church or see what God or Christ is all about when they are being so belligerent? And also, those soured on “The Church”, will take one look at this and think – that is what is wrong with “religion”. It’s like they forgot that they are supposed to seek and save the lost…this sign just seeks to reaffirm their own sense of superiority because it’s for THEIR benefit and no one else’s.
There are so many frustrations “out there” that it can keep us from attending to our business “in here”. I am sad that “they” are behaving so badly. But really?
And so much for unity among believers in Christ, right? I’m tempted to write them a letter…but it probably wouldn’t be very “unifying” either. On the other hand…it would be cathartic.
Wow! And htat’s not an “Oh my gosh, how cool” wow…but a “Really??!” wow.
Of course this isn’t quite as bad as the sign at a Christian Church near our town that said “Laying in bed and yelling ‘Oh God!’ on Sunday mornings does not constitute worship”. How embarrassing! I emailed them immediately when I got home and told them how distasteful it was!
I also saw another one yesterday that did make me laugh. It’s a church next door to a liquor store. Their sign said “Got your beer and wine? Now how about a shot of Community?” I think the church’s name was like Community Fellowship or something similar. Cute, but not snarky.
@Darcy: The fact that a spirituality center has newly come in across the street makes it worse! What better way to keep people OUT of that church than putting up a hostile sign like that?

As you can tell, it really bugs me.
Bugs me too, Darcy. A lot…
